Digital Media ... By The Numbers

Can we really continue to think of digital media as "new"?  With the increase in online media consumption and the rapid migration of media dollars online, the numbers really can tell the story.  This post on Pingdom.com presents interesting statistics compiled from a wide variety of sources (I've included a snippet from their report):

  • Emails - 107 trillion emails sent via the internet in 2010
  • Websites - 255 million websites at the end of 2010
  • Webservers - market share distribution
  • Domain Names - 110.6 million .com/.org/.net domain names at the end of 2010
  • Internet Users - 1.97 billion internet users worldwide, with 13.5% in North America
  • Social Media - 600 million people on Facebook at the end of 2010
  • Web Browsers - Internet Explorer still the leading browser at 46.9% share
  • Videos - 84% of US internet users view videos online
  • Images - 3+ billion photos uploaded to Facebook per month

It's now more important than ever to realize that companies do not need separate digital strategies - integration is still the name of the game!
